How I Fixed my Mis-Match Fabric Blunder!

I really like the whole distressed and tie dyed look. Some people hate it and that’s fine. They don’t have to do it or wear it for that matter. But if you are like me and love it, then we should definitely be friends. Because you sound fun. I recently ended up with two different cuts of the same bubble gauze fabric. I would have complained but it was literally the last of it. There was no more in the store. So that’s what I got. Rather than be upset, I decided to problem solve and I’m completely obsessed with the results!!

I purchase some overalls that inspired me to make some red ones….

I fell in love and purchased this dark blue pair of gauze overalls from an online boutique. I wanted another pair in a red color but couldn’t find any so I made my own pattern using the ones I bought.

Only there was a slight problem….

The problem was the red gauze fabric I wanted, I could only get in two separate cuts of fabric. Which I didn’t think would be a problem, until it was.

Both cuts of fabric looked the same, until I had sewn the overalls together. That’s when I really noticed the difference. The bib and the front legs were noticeably different. Like a LOT! So I decided to do the only reasonable thing….. Spray bleach!!

The pair I had purchased from the boutique were really distressed looking which I love so I knew I would love the red ones if they were distressed as well.

So I did the only resonable thing….

Spray bleaching was the perfect way to sort of camouflage the difference in the color I was trying to hide. So I simply rolled and tied my red overalls all up like this. The legs and bib were done separately. Then I diluted some bleach with water and sprayed it all really fast.

After about 10-15 minutes I rinsed it out then ran it through the washing machine. That way I was sure to get all the bleach out. I line dried them and Wah-Lah!

I love how it turned out! And I love wearing them so much. So glad I was able to save what would have been and unfortunate sewing project. These are a wardrobe favorite for sure now.
