I wanted to share this fun and simple project that I did with my kids. Bleach dying! I had previously done this with my oldest son on some pairs of overall I made for each of us. My other two boys really loved it and wanted to do it as well. So they have been making thrift store trips to find cool shirts to bleach dye. Needless to say we’ve been bleach dying ALL the things now. Read more “Easy Sumer Project- Bleach Dyeing Clothes” →
In Summer of 2020 I discovered two patterns that quickly became favorites of mine. The Love Notions Sunday Romper and The Allegros. I made several things from both and wore them constantly. Now with Summer of 2021 upon us I got to thinking. What if I did a mash-up of these two patterns for the Ultimate summer outfit?! Yes, I think I will. A while back I saw this darling Jersey dress online. With my middle child starting high school in August and being immersed in all things band and drumline related, I needed something comfy and cool to wear to the games. I thought a jersey dress would be the perfect thing to wear while I sit in the stands and watch my middle son perform during halftime. However, I don’t purchase clothing for myself other than undergarments so I knew I was going to have to make it.
No problem.
I had just the pattern in mind too. The Game Day Jersey by Love Notions Patterns. Now was the perfect time to try and copy this dress. Read more “Game Day Dress, Band mom style!” →

As most of you know, making your own clothes isn’t always less expensive than purchasing ready to wear. In fact, sometimes it’s quite a bit more expensive. It’s a price we are all willing to pay for having clothes perfectly designed for our bodies. Sure, we sometimes come across a fantastic fabric bargain, but the quality isn’t always the best. Or is it? I was determined to make a quality button front shirt without breaking the bank. Read more “The Button Front Shirt on a Budget” →
In the Instagram world, March is Wear Happy Color Month. It’s a movement that was started by Katie Kortman 3 years ago. It helps you revive your wardrobe and experiment with color combinations in ways you wouldn’t have before. You can read more on her blog here. It’s a really fun challenge with ambassador, prizes and lots of interaction. This year it was expanded to be inclusive of everyone, not just makers. It’s fun to follow the challenge hash tags #wearhappycolor2021 #sewhappycolor and #knithappycolor to find different people to follow and interact with. It’s been one of my favorite challenges and I try to post a new outfit everyday of the month. Below is the schedule of what the color scheme was each week. I came up with this simple hack, out of laziness while I was sewing these. I didn’t want to do buttonholes for the drawstring. I love waist ties and drawstrings but I hate doing buttonholes. I also am not super crazy with the look of pants being gathered across the front of my waist. I feel like it adds bulk. I also like the look of a flat front waist better than a gathered front waist. This hack could be used for pretty much any elastic waist pants you have. I happened to use a super simple pattern, The Oceanside Pants by Blank Slate Patterns. I have had this orangey-red, 100% cotton fabric for ages to make the Oceanside Pants with. I just kept putting it off. Well, since March is “Wear Happy Color” month I decided that I had better get them made so I could wear them during Orange week. Read more “Simple Hack for Elastic Waist Pants” →
What do you do when you have a closet full of jeans you don’t wear anymore and some fabric you want to make something out of? Well, how about you do what I did and combine the two to make the most unique skirt in your closet. My boys call it my “tricky” skirt. It looks like pants on one side and a skirt on the other. It’s a fun little illusion. Read more “Jeans or Skirt, How about Both?!” →
