The Perfect Palette Cleansing Project for the New Year

I always fall into a bit of a rut at the end of the year. We have 3 birthdays within 7 days of each other from the end of November to December. Mix that with Thanksgiving, Christmas sewing,  Holiday Shopping and family parties or zoom meetings….. I’m pretty much spent mentally come the New Year. Sewing is such a good activity for mental health for me. Because of that, I always want a quick, selfish sew to start the year.

This past year was particularly wild so something simple that doesn’t take a lot of thought or configuring is definitely needed. That’s what the La Bella Donna pattern is perfect for. It has so many options to choose from.  I can sew the short sleeve tunic together in under and hour. It’s the perfect palette cleansing project. The long sleeve tunic version is a quick sew too if you’re needing something more cozy, to snuggle on the couch with a floofy friend in. I don’t know about you, but my fur babies are the MVP’s of 2020  and we couldn’t have made it without them.

Needless to say, this pattern is an essential for me. You can check my other La Bella Donna makes here. I think it’s perfect for all the seasons and easy to hack to suit your needs and mood. Whatever they may be. Here’s some details so you can decide for yourself.

La Bella Donna Features:

Meant for knit fabrics

Shirt length with shirt tail hem

Shirt length with banded hem

Tunic length with pocket option

Full bust option for both views

3 sleeve options: short, 3/4 & long cuffed

Beginner friendly patterns are always at the top of my list at the New Year. They help me get back to normal. Starting with something easy after a particularly rough patch can really help with getting your Sewjo back.

Happy New Year and Happy Sewing!

I only made one and was disappointed in the fit for my arm pit and bust area. One comment I got was this pattern is not suitable for people with larger busts (darn menopause). I am wondering if I should, besides doing the large bust option, also go up a size and consider it an oversized sweater / sweatshirt. I made the short sleeved version in a french terry.

Shoot, I have the opposite problem. I size down in the bust and arm pit area. I’m vey Flat chested. Do you belong to the Love Notions group on FB? I know there are several sewists who do the large bust options on other patterns with success.
