Papercut Patterns Palisade Pants: Why did it take me…
Have you even come across a sewing pattern that just spoke to you? You knew exactly what fabric to make it in and how it would look? Well, that was the Palisade pants by Papercut Patterns for me and I wanted them in Plum colored linen.
The Palisade Pants have an elastic waist with a flat front and super unique side pocket detail. They are part of the Geo Collection that Papercut Patterns introduced in November of 2018. It consists of 6 Patterns perfect for a capsule wardrobe: 2 dresses, a top/sweater, a jumpsuit, a cardigan, and the palisade pants/shorts. All 6 of these patterns are available to purchase in either digital pdf or paper. On a side note, I purchased purchased their Sapporo Coat in a paper pattern over a year ago and I have to say that Papercut’s packaging is amazing. I want to display it on a shelf in my sewing room. It’s that cute.
Also, the paper that they print their patterns on isn’t the normal, thin tissue paper you get with other pattern companies. It’s thicker and more durable. All their packaging is made either from recycled or recycleable products.
I was eager to get started on my Palisade Pants so I opted for the pdf pattern instead of the paper one tho. I actually really enjoy putting together pdf patterns. Its like a puzzle. If you have never printed and put together a pdf pattern before you may want to start with a FREE one like the Deer and Doe Plantain Tee, the Grainline Studio Hemlock Tee or the Tessuti Fabrics Mandy Boat Tee . That way you can get the hang of it before you pay for one. Digital patterns can be quite expensive and a little tricky to piece together.
As soon as I printed the pattern, I became super intimidated by it. The pockets that I loved so much in the pictures just seemed so overwhelming when I saw all the pieces. So it sat under my cutting mat for 9 months waiting for me to get the courage to put it together and begin my project.
I don’t know what was wrong with me. I started making up projects to sew before I would start these pants. I was still completely obsessed with The Palisade Pants and would constantly look through the Hashtags for them on Instagram. Papercut Patterns always does such a good job with their instructions so I knew I’d be fine once I started. However, I still couldn’t bring myself to do it.
It wasn’t until after sewing my Butterfly Melody Dolman and writing a blogpost about it for Minerva.com that I was finally able to have the courage to start the Palisade Pants. So I turned on the new BH 90210 and got started.
I made them in a size medium with no adjustments. Oh my goodness, they went together beautifully and are so comfy!
I love them even more than I thought I would. They are super versatile. Perfect for casually crossing Urban Rivers or posing on stairs in heels at the Arts Center. I can wear them with my converse for a more casual look or throw them on with some heels and a ruffle shirt for a more dressy look.
Things I learned though:
1. I need to get out of my own head. I can do so much more than I think I can if I just take my time and enjoy the process.
2. I’m very impulsive so I need to be gentle with myself and allow myself time to think things through.
3. Flat front, elastic waist pants might be the best kind of pants ever!
