Pink- just a color
I must say, my kids surprise me everyday. Take my youngest for example. He asked me to make him a pink flamingo shirt since we couldn’t find one in his size when we found his brother one. He loved this pink flamingo fabric we found on Minerva.com and knowing how much he loves all the colors of the Rainbow, I ordered it.
Using an Easy McCall’s pattern #6099 I quickly sewed his shirt once the fabric arrived and he started wearing it immediately. He loves this shirt.
One night while we were having dinner with family, his cousin 10 years his senior looks at him in his pink shirt and playfully says, “Dude why, do you like wearing girl colors?” My little guy looks at him and without even missing a beat says, “What are you even talking about? There’s no such thing as girl colors or boy colors. They’re all just colors.” Then all his other cousins chimed in and agreed. They’re all just colors. His older cousin was amused and satisfied with his response.
I was so ready to jump to my little color-loving artists defense, but he didn’t even need it! I was so proud of him for not letting someone’s opinion change how he felt about something. He still loves his flamingo shirt and wears it all the time.
There’s so many moments where you feel like a complete failure as a parent. It’s so nice when you have a parenting “Win” moment. I just needed to document it, in case it never happens again.
Here’s to confident kids wearing all the lovely colors!
