When I saw this cute Light green, velvet wrap dress online and just fell in love. But could I make one similar? Well, I definitely had to try. Here’s how I used 3 patterns to make the dress of my dreams!

The Inspo….

I don’t know about you but I love wearing velvet dresses around the Holidays. It just seems like the perfect fabric for the season. So when I saw this gorgeous Baltic Born light green Velvet dress while scrolling Posh Mark I really wanted to make one for myself. I found some lovely crushed velvet fabric at Joann’s to make it in. 

Two Different Patterns for the Dress…

The dress looked to be a legit wrap dress, which is a style I have never made before. I’m definitely not responsible enough for an actual wrap dress so I wanted to make a faux wrap instead. I already had a pattern in mind. That’s the Willow Wrap dress by Love Notions. I wanted the bottom to be a maxi length wrap style and the Willow pattern doesn’t have that option so I knew I would have to do something else for that. I looked at my pattern collection and saw that the Bluzette dress had a length option and was the style that I needed for the dress I was making. So I was going to use the Willow wrap top and the Bluezette bottom. The Bluzette skirt fit nearly perfectly with the Willow top. I just had to gather the back middle portion of the skirt so that it would fit the top.

A Third Pattern for the Sleeves…

I really like the sleeve in the inspo pic. For the sleeves I used a combination of two patterns:  the Willow Wrap Flutter sleeve and the puff sleeve from the Lenox dress pattern. I just used the shoulder part of the Lenox sleeve and blended it with the Willow Flutter sleeve.  I also lengthened the sleeves by 3 inches. 

Because I had too….

And of course I added pockets! Truly, it would be absurd not to. I attached them 3 ½ inches down from the top of the skirt. I used a green, cotton floral fabric for the pockets. I used the same fabric for the neck facing on the top too. Even though it’s not visible I think it’s super cute to have that contrast.

One More Thing….

To give this dress the look of an actual wrap dress I wanted it to definitely have a tie. So the last detail I added was a belt tie. I wanted it to be really long. To make it I cut a really long piece of fabric (like 60 in. or so) 4 inches wide. That way it would be a little under 2 inches wide after I folded it in half to make the belt. I really like how it turned out. 

I also really like that it’s a faux wrap rather than a real wrap dress. Because now I don’t have to worry about any wardrobe malfunctions. It’s the wrap look without the responsibility, haha! The Willow Wrap Dress is functional, flattering and comfortable made with knit fabrics. The crossover neckline can be made lower to make access easier for those nursing mamas. The side ruching can be made with gathers or pleats and knee length, full a-line skirt is so flattering on all figures! The dress can also be made without the ruching for a smooth finish. Both styles can be done with a peplum skirt instead of a full length skirt. An optional flounce can be added to the neckline to dress it up. Bonus- the Willow Wrap Dress also has a maternity option!

Willow Wrap Dress Features:

Bluezette Dress

The Bluezette Dress has five skirt styles, three sleeve lengths and two bodice styles. That equals 30 different ways this dress can be made! First, choose your bodice style: the regular bodice is a slim fit that sits at the natural waistline, the blousey bodice can sit anywhere from the natural waist to the under bust and billows out a bit to help hide trouble spots. Both bodices have the option of being fully lined. Once you pick your bodice, choose your skirt style: tulip, high-low, straight knee length, half-circle knee length and maxi. All skirt styles can be made with the included under-skirt so you can use those gorgeous sheer fabrics. The last choice you have to make is the sleeve length: tank, short or elbow length. The bodice is meant for knits while all of the skirt styles may be made from knits or wovens with drape.

Bluezette Dress Features:

• Meant for woven and knit fabrics
• 2 body styles: slim and blousey
• Fully lined option
• 3 sleeve options: tank, short and elbow
• 5 skirt styles: tulip, high-low, straight knee length, half-circle knee length and maxi

Lenox Dress

The Lenox Top & Dress will be the most versatile garment in your wardrobe. Use it as a dress, a shirt or a cropped top! So many options. Choose from the square neck or sweetheart neckline and four different sleeve options. We did the math and this one pattern gives you more than 30 different options!

This pattern comes in sizes XS-5X and includes an optional full bust piece. The Lenox Top & Dress is meant for knit fabrics.

• Four body styles: full length shirt, cropped shirt, knee length dress & midi length dress
• Two neckline options: square or sweetheart
